Meet Ziggy...
Our curl-less Cockapoo. We’re biased, we know, but isn’t he gorgeous! Like most pet parents, we were determined to give him the best. After speaking to friends, family and researching online - we wanted to feed him raw.
But, sadly, we couldn’t. You see our daughters immuno-suppressed and the deadly bacteria in raw dog food was just to risky for her to be around. So we searched high and low for a safe, healthy, affordable alternative instead. One that had all the benefits but without the risks. Easy, right?
Wrong... because it didn’t matter what we tried – the expensive brands, the cheaper alternatives, or even specialist prescription food – Ziggy’s poops were soft, stinky and more like Mr Whippys than tiny torpedoes. Yuck! You are what you eat, and the proof of his poops suggested it wasn’t good. At a loss, we didn’t know what to do.
Then a chance meeting with a dog behaviourist changed everything. She recommended a small-family- run-company that produced a dry food that mimicked the benefits raw. Skeptical, but with nothing to lose, we jumped online and placed an order.
But when our package arrived the next day, we were underwhelmed. It looked just like any of the other dried foods Ziggy had tried. But one week in, the results were fantastic. Finally, poops any raw feeder would be proud of! And within 2 months, his coats was so shiny other dog walkers commented on it. At last, we felt we were feeding Ziggy food he deserved.
Everything was great until the founders of Angell PetCo, Jill and Robert Angell announced they were retiring. We were distraught. The thought of trying to find another food like theirs was terrifying.
But then, in a moment on madness, we thought, “Could we help?”. We’d become so passionate about Angell PetCo and its mission. So, we reached out, and a little convincing, the rest as they say - is history.
In the beginning...
Angell PetCo was founded by Jill and Robert Angell. Two pioneers of the dog food industry. They pioneered fish-based dog food and natural dental treats and won lots of awards. Their first dog food business became a global brand.
However, the Angells knew that premium ingredients were only part of the equation. Aware that the high-temperature cooking process used to produce regular dry dog food destroyed much of the premiums ingredients' nutritional value.
Jill and Robert set out to revolutionise the industry once again. And their quest to preserve the goodness of premium ingredients led to the origins of freshPRES.
